Nanaimo RCMP officers are investigating a rollover crash that took place in the early afternoon on Wednesday where the driver fled the scene.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on February 17 along the Old Island Highway.

Witnesses at the scene of the crash said that the car was travelling northbound on the highway, near Dorman Road, when it rolled off the right side of the road and into a ditch.

In a video clip sent to CHEK by Brenden Bullock, a white four-door hatchback vehicle can be seen in the ditch.

The vehicle appears to have sustained damage to the hood, door frames and rear bumper. The back wheel on the driver’s side was also missing a rim.

The airbags in both the front and the back of the vehicle were deployed as well.

Although snow covers the grass in the ditch, the highway is clear and weather doesn’t seem to be a factor in the crash.

Witnesses also informed CHEK News that the driver of the white hatchback was spotted fleeing the scene after the vehicle rolled over and crashed.

Nanaimo RCMP is currently looking further into the incident and is asking any witnesses who may have information to call them at (250) 754-2345.
