An employee at a McDonald’s on Vancouver Island recently tested positive for COVID-19.

According to McDonald’s Canada, an employee who last worked at their Nanaimo Nicol Street location on Jan. 17 has tested positive for the deadly virus.

The company says it was notified of the positive test on Jan. 20. It also says when an employee tests positive, the store they worked at is closed temporarily for cleaning by a certified third-party company.

“This closure is done out of an abundance of caution for the safety of employees and the community,” reads a statement on McDonald’s Canada’s website.

McDonald’s is asking anyone who may have visited the location and has concerns to contact their local public health authority.

The Nanaimo location is one of three in B.C. to have had at least one employee recently test positive for COVID-19, according to the company’s website.
