Nanaimo man accused of multiple indecent exposures arrested in Victoria

A Nanaimo man suspected of committing numerous indecent exposures was arrested in Victoria.

According to the Victoria Police Department, officers were responded to an apartment building in the 1000-block of Pendergast Street at around 6 p.m. on May 24 after receiving reports about a naked man committing an indecent act outside the building.

VicPD says that although the man had left before officers arrived, several residents of the apartment building witnessed the man and decided to film the man using their phones after notifying the building manager and alerting police.

“Using this video from these quick-thinking witnesses, officers were able to identify the man, who has distinctive tattoos,” the department said in a press release.

Although officers tried to locate the man and his vehicle, they were unable to locate him.

Then, just a few hours later, at around 10 p.m., officers were called to Beacon Hill Park — near the Dallas Road and Olympia Avenue intersection — after receiving reports of a naked man performing an indecent act.

VicPD says, from a distance the officers observed the man and determined that it was the same man from the Pendergast Street incident.

However, the man fled the area before additional officers were able to arrive.

Then at around 2 p.m. on May 25, VicPD says officers continued their search and located the man.

The man — whose identity was not disclosed — was arrested and then and released on conditions pending a future court date.

Anyone with information regarding the indecent acts or similar incidents are asked to contact the Victoria Police Department at 250-995-7654 or the Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
