Mounties investigate suspicious fire at Nanaimo recreation centre

RCMP say they’re investigating a suspicious fire at a recreation centre in Nanaimo.

The Mounties say if not for the quick response of firefighters, the fire at the Centennial building at Beban Park rec centre could have spread quickly.

Fire investigators and police believe Tuesday’s fire appeared to have been started by cardboard being piled next to the building, then set alight.

Police say they have no witnesses or suspects.
