A motorist in Greater Victoria started the New Year off with their pedal to the metal.
The Saanich Police Department says one of their officers pulled over a vehicle travelling 179 km/h on Patricia Bay Highway (Highway 17) at around 10 p.m. on Jan. 1.
Saanich PD did not disclose where on the highway the motorist was caught nor did they disclose how much the driver was fined. But under the province’s motor vehicle act, the fine for excessive speed above 60 km/h is $483.
