Man arrested following View Royal police chase due in court: A 49-year-old man will appear in court this morning after sparking a manhunt around View Royal late yesterday afternoon. The man, wanted on charges in Kelowna and Vernon, tried to escape by jumping into the Gorge Waterway and was later found hiding in some bushes about 40 minutes later. He was arrested without incident.
Victoria man remains in connection to attack of Vancouver police officer: Vancouver Police Department says criminal charges have been approved against three men, including 24-year-old Brian Benjamin Allen of Victoria, after a police officer suffered injuries when attacked during a routine traffic stop Tuesday night. Allen is charged for allegedly taking the officer’s cell phone and all three remain in custody. West Vancouver residents Brendan John Robinson and Troy Michael Robinson are each charged with assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm and willfully obstructing an officer.
Smaller natural gas line restored following rupture near Prince George: Fortis BC said Thursday morning a smaller 30-inch natural gas line is back up and running, but supply remains low following the rupture of an Enbridge gas line near Prince George Tuesday night. Fortis says until the damaged 36-inch line is repaired, customers including on Vancouver Island are still being asked to avoid non-essential use of natural gas appliances.
B.C. home sales down 33 per cent in September compared to the same month last year: The latest B.C. Real Estate Association report on home sales says there were 5,573 residential units sold last month, down 33.2 per cent from September of last year. The average price is down just over one per cent from the same month last year at $685,749, while total sales volume is down 34 per cent.
B.C. using Washington’s example for marijuana legalization preparations: Premier John Horgan says the province has taken cues from Washington state as it prepares for recreational marijuana legalization next week, including a recommendation not to issue more licences than it can handle. No B.C. licences have been issued to date, but Horgan says many existing dispensary owners are “on their way” to getting a new license. Horgan said the legalization transition is challenging and will take time.
Victoria firefighters respond to a grease fire Wednesday night: Victoria fire says a pan containing hot cooking oil and grease erupted in flames in a unit at Swift House Apartments last night, operated by Victoria’s Cool Aid Society. Fire officials say it was quickly extinguished by the sprinkler system and the lone occupant of the suite suffered a minor burn to one hand.
Nanaimo thieves take off with bikes meant for charity: A Nanaimo charity that collects bikes to give to the needy is asking for help following a theft over the long weekend, where an estimates 25 adult bikes are now gone. No kids’ bikes were taken. RCMP say it was the work of an organized group of thieves.
Astronauts are safe following an emergency landing in Kazakhstan: The head of Russia’s top space medicine centre says an American and a Russian astronaut endured higher than normal G-forces, but are feeling good after an emergency landing. Nick Hague and Alexei Ovchinin blasted off as scheduled for the International Space Station today, but their Soyuz booster failed two minutes after the launch. Russia is suspending manned space launches pending its investigation into what went wrong.
Tropical storm Michael hits hard: Tropical Storm Michael is still menacing the Southeastern U.S. with heavy rains, high winds and possible spinoff tornadoes. Michael was a Category 4 storm with 250-kilometre an hour winds when it hit the Florida Panhandle yesterday, destroying homes and shopping centres and knocking down trees that killed at least two people. More than 780,000 homes and businesses were without power Thursday morning.
Reagan reappears at his presidential library: Starting Thursday, those who miss Ronald Reagan will have a chance to hear from the 40th U.S. President. A three-dimensional holographic image of Reagan will play at his presidential library and museum in Simi Valley, California. The $1.5 million dollar exhibit is the first of its kind among American presidential libraries.

Spotify crunches the numbers on its 10-year anniversary: Spotify is 10-years-old and the music streaming service has run the numbers. Drake is Spotify’s most-streamed artist ever. The Canadian is followed by Ed Sheeran, whose “Shape Of You” is the service’s most-streamed song ever.
Kanye West sits down with President Trump: Rapper Kanye West is heading to the White House for lunch today with President Donald Trump. The two are going to talk about manufacturing, prison reform, preventing gang violence and reducing violence in Chicago, where West grew up.

Canucks try to end two-game slide in Tampa Bay: The Vancouver Canucks will try to end a two-game slide as they continue their six-game road trip in Tampa Bay Thursday night. The Canucks are coming off a 5-3 loss to Carolina Tuesday.
Stanley Cup rematch goes to the champs: A Stanley Cup rematch last night in Washington and it went similar to last June. Evgeny Kuznetsov with a goal and three assists leading the Capitals to a 5-2 win over Vegas.
NFC East showdown in New York: The Philadelphia Eagles try to avoid a three-game losing streak for the first time since 2016 as they face the Giants in New York. The reigning Super Bowl champions are 2-and-3, while the G-Men are 1-and-4.
