A strong low-pressure system hitting BC’s South Coast, is wreaking havoc across Vancouver Island.
More than 20,000 customers are without power across the island as of 6:30 p.m. Sunday night.
The majority of the big winds, and outages are hitting Nanaimo to Campbell River. Some residents in Nanaimo are saying the winds are so strong, the gusts are shaking their houses.
So far we still have power in #Nanaimo but #BCStorm winds are really strong, sustained and shaking our house @CHEK_News @environmentca pic.twitter.com/jfeRSxmRMR

These gusts are getting crazy & higher than predicted 80kmh gust warning here in Parksville. Tree branches are blowing off hitting my roof. It’s high tide now too and with wind blowing directly on shore, likely to see sea wall damage around here I bet. Still no power. ?

Wind warnings are in effect from Greater Victoria all the way to Nanaimo.
The winds are supposed to die down overnight.
