There goes a good night’s sleep.
Vancouver Island’s Ryan Bunyan was driving westbound along Highway 14 Sunday afternoon when he spotted a car hauling a mattress. Only the load didn’t appear to be properly fastened to the roof, leading him to foreshadow some trouble.
“If you look closely, the car had a double kayak holder on it already and they tied it to that, not the car,” Bunyan told CHEK News. “So, soon as I (saw) him go into (the) fast lane, I decided to record.”
The mattress eventually flew off the car, landing in a centre left-turn lane and just missing Bunyan, who managed to capture video of the hazardous ordeal just outside Langford.
“My phone is always in a holder ready to record,” he said. “Then, it ripped the kayak holder and (flew) off the roof and barely missed me.”
The other driver, meanwhile, made a U-turn after the mattress landed on the road.
Bunyan posted the video to Facebook around 2 p.m. Sunday and by Tuesday afternoon, it had already surpassed 25,000 views with hundreds of reactions and comments. He captioned it “Sooke 4 lanes” with several laughing emojis.
While police did not receive a call regarding the incident, Nancy Saggar, media relations officer for West Shore RCMP, tells CHEK News the detachment’s Traffic Unit is now investigating.
