WATCH: Victoria’s Bay Street bridge has been partially closed until approximately the end of October.

Victoria’s Bay Street bridge, also known as the Point Ellice Bridge, has been partially closed until approximately the end of October.

Eastbound lanes were closed Tuesday morning. Westbound lanes will stay open for vehicle traffic.

Pedestrians are still allowed to travel in both directions.

Cyclists are allowed as well but will have to dismount and walk their bikes.

Emergency vehicles will travel across the bridge but only in the westbound direction.

The closure is part of a $6.1 million project that includes major work on the bridge, which is at least 50 years old.

It is being carried out by Canadian company Seismic 2000, based on the lower mainland.

Work is expected to be finished by the end of October.
