A 37-year-old man is pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of a Langford single mother who was gunned down outside a gathering two years ago.

“I enter the plea voluntarily, there has been no coercion of any kind,” Anthony Singh Dheensaw told the courtroom, appearing virtually from jail.

In Victoria, a small courtroom was filled with Angela Dalman’s friends and family, who upon hearing the guilty plea gasped in relief and brushed away tears.

The 40-year-old single mother’s murder took place outside a gathering on Friday, March 6, 2020, in Langford. After firing two shots, Dheenshaw fled the scene in a car but was arrested by police the next morning.

“I heard two loud bangs, they were so loud I thought they were explosions. Three women came flying out of the back of the house screaming and crying saying ‘call the police call the police!'” said one witness on the night of the incident. “I heard one of them say she’s been shot.”

Dalman was taken to hospital but later died from her injuries, leaving behind a teenage son.

“What we know is that there was a gathering that took place at this residence where this shooting occurred. We are not sure about the relationship between the victim and suspect at this time,” said Const. Nancy Saggar with West Shore RCMP the day after the shooting.

As of today, Dheensaw not only plead guilty to the second-degree murder of Angela Dalman on March 6, 2020, but he also plead guilty to using a firearm in the attempted murder of a man named Derrick Oke on that same date. Details involving that case have not been released.

But Dheensaw should have never had the gun he used to shoot and kill Dalman, or Oke in the first place. According to court records, he was under a court-ordered lifetime firearm ban following an assault conviction in North Vancouver in 2018.

According to court records, a few days before gunning down Dalman, Dheensaw was also arrested for drug and gun possession. Those charges are still pending.

A date where a statement of facts, victim impact statements and sentencing for Dalman’s murder will be set later this month.
