A man has been taken into custody after a standoff with police at Pearkes Arena in Saanich on Wednesday night.
A heavy police presence could be seen at he facility as of 8:45 p.m after reports of a man claiming to be armed with a gun and refusing to leave.
Witnesses say police set up a containment area.
Its not believed there was anyone on the ice at the arena at time of the incident, but the weight room was open.
Witnesses also report seeing library staff being rushed out of the facility.
Access to the area via Arena Road was blocked as the Emergency Response Team and a K9 unit were called in.
At around 10:30 p.m., the man could be seen surrendering to several police officers and being taken out of the building.
The area has now been cleared.
