A 55-year-old man was arrested after Mounties say he shot another man in a targeted attack near Sooke.

The incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday at a property in the Otter Point area.

According to the Sooke RCMP, officers and the BC Emergency Health Services responded to a rural property and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was immediately taken to a Victoria area hospital in serious condition.

The suspect, say RCMP, fled the scene on foot and was arrested a short time later after he was found hiding in a nearby neighbourhood.

“Although investigators are in the beginning stages of this investigation, early indications suggest that the suspect and victim were known to each other, this was a targeted attack and there is no further risk to the public,” Sgt. Chris Manseau of the BC RCMP said in a press release.

Police are requesting anyone who has any information regarding this matter to contact the Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
