A 22-year-old Surrey man was sentenced Thursday for his role in a 2016 drive-by shooting in Nanaimo and subsequent police chase to Duncan.

Armaan Singh Chandi was found guilty in February of five charges including attempted murder after he and another man sprayed a car with bullets in March of 2016 before speeding away.

A police chase to Duncan ensued, where Chandi and another man were arrested.

Two RCMP officers were injured during that pursuit. The occupant of the targeted car was not hurt. All nine bullets missed though it was later determined the pair had shot at the wrong car.

This afternoon Supreme Court Justice Robin Baird called Chandi’s actions profoundly selfish, dangerous and illegal.

Chandi has now been sentenced to nine years in prison. He was also handed a 10-year firearms prohibition.

His accomplice pleaded guilty and was sentenced in February.
