A man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a 75-year-old Port Alberni resident nearly six years ago.

Channon Paul Coulter of Mission was arrested in February 2016, and charged with killing Mervin Hankins, who was found dead in his home in the 3500 block of 4th avenue in Port Alberni on January 13, 2012.

Coulter entered the guilty plea in B.C. Supreme Court in Nanaimo November 22 and was sentenced to 15 years, less credit for time served.

Coulter was also given a lifetime firearms prohibition.
