A man is in the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed in Nanaimo on Thursday morning.

Around 4 a.m., outside a strip mall at Bruce Avenue and 5th Street a man got into a confrontation with three people, and he was stabbed, according to R/Const. Gary O’Brien with Nanaimo RCMP.

“What we know is an individual got into a confrontation with two men and a woman, he ultimately ended up being stabbed. He has serious but non life-threatening injuries. He actually staggered over to the 7/11 where staff helped him and called 911. He’s currently in the hospital,” O’Brien told CHEK News.

The victim is still in the hospital and police are looking for three suspects.

“It was a significant incident where he received multiple stab wounds,” said O’Brien.

The scene was examined all morning by investigators and there were a large number of evidence markers visible.

Nanaimo resident Amber Miller was shocked to come upon the scene, after dropping her son off at school barely a block away.

“It’s scary, especially knowing that my son’s school is right there,” said Miller.

Investigators spent Thursday going door to door canvassing for witnesses and surveillance video. RCMP believe the attack is an isolated incident.
