Man in custody after early morning stabbing in Powell River

Powell River RCMP say the victim is known to the 29-year-old man.

A 29-year-old man is in custody after a stabbing incident in Powell River early Friday morning.

According to Powell River RCMP, the stabbing happened just before 1:30 a.m. at a residence on Padgett Road.

A 56-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds and he was taken to hospital for treatment, according to police. The man’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening and he is in stable condition.

RCMP says the 29-year-old is known to the victim and there’s no risk to the public.

“We are in the early evidence gathering stage of this investigation,” said Sgt. Sandi Swanson of Powell River RCMP in a press release Friday. “However initial indications are this was an isolated incident between people known to each other, and the general public is not at risk.”

Investigators are expected to be at the scene for the rest of the day and into the weekend.

Powell River RCMP says there’s no further info available at this time.
