Man found dead following single-vehicle crash west of Port Alberni: RCMP

One man was found dead following a minor single-vehicle collision on Highway 4 near the Taylor River rest area, west of Port Alberni, according to police.

On Monday, around 6:30 p.m., Port Alberni RCMP was called to the collision. When arriving on scene, police said they found the driver uninjured and a passenger, a man, deceased inside the vehicle.

The Port Alberni Fire Department told CHEK News that the crash happened two kilometres west of a rest area, near Sproat Lake.

The cause of death is under investigation but is not believed to be related to the collision, said RCMP in a news release, noting next-of-kin notifications are in progress.

Police do not believe there is any danger to the public.

Port Alberni RCMP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the BC Coroners Service is also conducting a parallel investigation, added police.
