Man dies after entering water near North Saanich marina, coroner investigating

A 64-year-old man is dead after entering the water near a marina in North Saanich on Monday night, police say.

A 64-year-old man is dead after entering the water near a marina in North Saanich on Monday night.

According to a press release issued by the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP, officers received reports at around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 18 that a man fell into the water at Canoe Cove Marina and had not resurfaced.

After a brief search, the man was found in “approximately 15 feet” of water and pulled to shore, where first aid measures were performed immediately but without success.

The 64-year-old man, who is from North Saanich, was declared dead at the scene.

B.C. Coroners Service currently investigating to determine the exact cause of the death, however, RCMP says it is not considered suspicious.

Canoe Cove Marina is located near the Swartz Bay ferry terminal in North Saanich.
