A few hours after getting a complaint of a stolen electric bike in Colwood, West Shore RCMP recovered the item and arrested a man who was spotted with it in View Royal.

West Shore RCMP says they received a report Thursday afternoon of a stolen bike sometime during the previous night from a property near the Island Highway.

The owner provided pictures of the 2015 Kgeez Rufus e-bike and the RCMP bike patrol unit went looking for it.

The e-bike was found by officers at a home in View Royal and after setting up surveillance, they saw a man leave the residence and drive away on the bike.

RCMP says the unit then arrested the man for possession of stolen property.

The suspect was released on a promise to appear in court.

West Shore RCMP Cst. Nancy Saggar said in a release the owner realized the e-bike worth nearly $3,000 was stolen at 7 a.m. Thursday, but did not report it until 4 p.m. and officers recovered it by 7 p.m.
