A traffic stop in Courtenay at the end of March ended up in police seizing mail from all over the Comox Valley believed to be stolen.

Comox Valley RCMP says 34-year-old Daryl May has been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of an identity document, and failure to comply with his probation.

Officers pulled over a vehicle on March 29 in the 1500-block of McPhee Avenue in Courtenay.

The driver was identified and found to be prohibited from driving, and was arrested.

A search of the vehicle found what police believe was stolen mail inside, and police are still processing exhibits seized during the investigation.

“Anyone who believes they were a victim of mail theft in March should be checking their credit card statements, contacting their
bank, and ensuring that their personal information has not been used. If you discover any suspicious activity, please call us right away, ” Comox Valley RCMP Cst. Holly Carlson said in a statement.
