Campbell River RCMP has arrested a man following an alleged gun-pointing incident at a local residence.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, police say that RCMP officers were called to the 1300-block of Dogwood Street in Campbell River at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10.

The report that police received suggested that “a man in a tracksuit” had pulled a gun on another man.

Campbell River RCMP says that resources were immediately mobilized and the subsequent police investigation led to a suspect who was arrested without incident later on the same day.

On Sunday, police units conducted a search warrant at a residence connected in Campbell River — connected to the suspect in the gun-pointing incident — locating firearms, ammunition, and substances believed to be cocaine, MDMA and fentanyl.

The Campbell River local, Ray Sharkey, appeared in court on April 12, facing a total of 16 criminal charges including Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

Sharkey remains in custody.

There was an immense amount of teamwork to ensure that this investigation was conducted as quickly and safely as possible, said Const. Maury Tyre. Whenever we are dealing with firearms in the community being used in such a brazen manner there is an inherent risk that needs to be managed.

Police say that the Community Response Unit (CRU), A and D watches, Major Crimes Unit (MCU), Police Dog Services (PDS), and the Forensics Unit (FIS) were all involved in the investigation linked to this incident.

All the officers who took part in the investigation handled themselves with a level of professionalism that ensured the incident did not escalate out of control and that the community at large remained safe, added Const. Tyre.

At this time, it is believed the parties involved in the incident were known to each other.
