Police in Nanaimo are seeking witnesses after one male allegedly hit another male in the back of the head with a baseball bat before smashing his vehicle’s windshield.

Nanaimo RCMP says the alleged assault with a weapon happened the afternoon of May 27 outside the 7-Eleven store at the corner of 5th Street and Bruce Avenue.

Around 4:30 p.m. that day, the driver of a red Honda Civic followed the driver of a white Hyundai to the corner store, according to Mounties.

The drivers, both males, then exited their vehicles, “and the Civic driver hit the Hyundai driver in the back with a baseball bat and then used the bat to smash the windshield of the Hyundai,” said police in a news release Wednesday.

The Hyundai driver suffered minor injuries, says RCMP.

In the update, police say they’re “urgently” requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or has information to come forward.

CHEK News reached out to RCMP for security footage of the incident, but none was available.

Nanaimo RCMP can be reached at 250-754-2345.
