A teenager was arrested in Langford after injuring a student during a fight at school, say police.

In a news release, West Shore RCMP say officers were called to Belmont Secondary School on Dec. 9 following a fight between two 17-year-old male students that took place just off of school property.

West Shore RCMP say during the fight one of the teenage boys suffered a broken nose and cheekbone after he was kicked repeatedly by the other student.

As a result, officers arrested the other student, who also sustained minor injuries, for assault causing bodily harm.

The suspect youth was placed on conditions to not have any contact with the youth victim and is set to appear in court in February 2023.

Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer, said in the release that the incident remains under investigation.

We are aware that there were several youths who witnessed this fight take place and only some have come forward to speak to police. We are requesting the remaining youth witnesses to please come forward and speak to us, she said.
