A resident of Ladysmith finds herself $1 million richer after her spin on a B.C. lottery game landed on the winning prize.

Cheryl Gourley from Vancouver Island says she was shocked when her Powerbucks spin on PlayNow.com scored her the cash winnings.

“I won these free spins, and the wheel came up and the needle started spinning and then there was a big flash that I won,” said Gourley.

“I saw the amount and I was just like ‘I won!’ I started jumping up and down with my laptop screaming!” she added. “My nephews ran out of their rooms thinking something had happened to me. One of my nephews was like ‘auntie, hand me the computer!’”

Gourley messaged her friend to share the big news – who delighted in her win as well.

Gourley tells the BC Lottery Corporation that the money will give her and her child some financial security, in addition to plans for travel and retirement.

According to BCLC’s website, the odds of winning the static jackpot are approximately 1 in 150 million.
