Ladysmith RCMP say two people have been airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after their car collided with a semi truck on the Trans-Canada Highway in Ladysmith Monday morning.
Police say the accident happened at 6:19 a.m. where the highway intersects Davis Road South.
Police believe the northbound truck struck the small car as it was crossing over the highway from Davis. The two people inside were initially taken to Nanaimo Airport before being transferred to hospital via air ambulance.
The truck overturned and landed on a concrete median, but the driver is reported to have only suffered minor injuries.
The highway was closed for most of Monday morning but reopened by early afternoon.
