Council meetings in Ladysmith will be held in a new location starting today.

The Town of Ladysmith has announced that beginning Sept. 20, council meetings, committee of the whole meetings as well as public hearings, will be held at the Seniors Centre building located on 630 2nd Ave.

Meetings were previously held at the town’s “City Hall” building.

According to a statement posted on the municipality’s website, the reason for the change in location was because “City Hall no longer adequately serves as an appropriate venue” for council meetings. It also says the Seniors Centre is more spacious and can accommodate larger numbers of people.

“The Seniors Centre allows the Town to accommodate people more comfortably for council, committee of the whole meetings as well as public hearings. Additionally, the Town has invested in new audiovisual technology for the room so that it is more suitable as a meeting space for council,” the statement reads.

The first council meeting will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

“As always, members of the public are encouraged to attend in person or watch the meeting live on our YouTube channel,” the Town of Ladysmith said in its statement.

There are no immediate plans for converting the council chambers at City Hall, according to the Town of Ladysmith.
