Police say a pedestrian died early Tuesday morning after he was struck by a vehicle on the Stz’uminus First Nation near Ladysmith.

At around 4:20 a.m. on June 25, Ladysmith RCMP responded to a complaint of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle on Tideview Road.

Ladysmith RCMP, firefighters and BC Ambulance attended. Although lifesaving efforts were attempted, the 24-year-old pedestrian, who was from the Stz’uminus First Nation, died from his injuries.

Police said the driver, who is also from the Stz’uminus First Nation, remained at the scene and is co-operating with the police investigation. According to police, the evidence so far does not indicate criminality on part of the driver but the collision is still being investigated with help from an RCMP traffic reconstructionist.

The BC Coroners Service is also investigating. The coroners service investigates all sudden, unexpected and/or unnatural deaths in the province to determine who died, how, where, when and by what means.

The pedestrian’s name has not been released.
