Lauren Spencer-Smith is ready to rock the red carpet.

The Vancouver Island singer-songwriter is now Juno-recognized, having racked up two nominations, including Artist of the Year and TikTok Fan Choice, at the 2023 awards show happening March 13 in Edmonton, Alta.

It’s set to broadcast on CBC and CBC Gem.

Nominations were announced Tuesday and Spencer-Smith’s got some competition, with Avril Lavigne, Michael Bublé, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd also up for Artist of the Year. Meanwhile, the Nanaimo native is one of eight nominees in the TikTok category, next to artists like Tate McRae and Tyler Shaw.

The upcoming show, presented annually to acknowledge Canadian musical artists’ and bands’ achievements in all aspects of music, has been a long time coming, according to Allan Reid, Juno Awards’ president and CEO.

“We’ve been working with the host committee for six years to bring the Junos back,” Reid said after the nominations were announced. “It’s been 19 years since we were last there, so we’re really, really excited.”

It’s likely another career highlight for Spencer-Smith, who, after going viral on platforms like YouTube and TikTok, appeared on the 18th season of American Idol before performing live at England’s iconic Wembley Stadium in June 2022.

More recently, to ring in the new year, she graced television screens while singing her songs on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2023, which aired on ABC.

Spencer-Smith’s self-released single Fingers Crossed, released in 2021, broke numerous charts worldwide, including in the U.S., the U.K. and her home country, where it peaked at number eight on the Canadian Hot 100.

She actually co-wrote the song and, in a previous interview with CHEK News, said she was grateful to all the people on Vancouver Island for their continued support.

Best Friend Breakup is Spencer-Smith’s next single, to be released Feb. 10.
