Island Health confirms two more cases of COVID-19 related to an outbreak at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

There are two more positive cases of COVID-19 related to an outbreak at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Island Health said in a release Tuesday night.

The health authority says the two new cases were identified after a second round of patient testing.

The new cases brings the total COVID-19 cases linked to the outbreak to 14, with nine patients and five staff members testing positive.

On Monday night, Island Health confirmed a COVID-related death to the outbreak and has not provided further information out of respect for the privacy of the individual and their family.

The outbreak at Saanich Peninsula Hospital was first declared on Dec. 1 and testing continues to confirm it is limited to acute care areas.

Island Health says acute care patients are being closely monitored for symptoms.

“Staff testing continues for staff members who had direct contact with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19,” Island Health said in the statement.

“Movement between acute and long-term care is restricted for staff who have or are currently working in acute care areas at SPH.”

The hospital remains closed to acute admissions, but the emergency department is still open.

The hospital’s laboratory service outpatients collections have been temporarily moved to the Keating Cross Road lab at 2140A Keating Cross Road.
