Island Health has announced that it will be rolling out a second Vax Van, while also scheduling new pop-up clinics at post-secondary institutions as health officials continue to encourage residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The health authority is hoping that the addition of another Vax Van, along with these pop-up clinics, will make getting the COVID-19 vaccine easier and more convenient for people across the region.

Over the upcoming long weekend, the mobile Vax Vans are scheduled to be set up at popular shopping centres in Victoria and Nanaimo.

The schedule for the Vax Vans over this weekend is as follows:

  • Saturday, September 4: Uptown Centre in Victoria from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 5: Mayfair Shopping Centre from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday, September 6: Woodgrove Centre in Nanaimo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Next week, as post-secondary institutions prepare to resume classes, pop-up clinics will begin to appear on campuses across Vancouver Island.

Anyone born in 2009 or earlier is welcome to attend and receive their first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine with second doses being made available 28 days or more after your first.

Anyone walking up to the Vax Vans or these pop-up clinics is asked to bring their COVID-19 Immunization Record Card, if you have it, and their Personal Health Number.

“While temporary and mobile clinics are an important part of the immunization effort, community clinics continue to operate across the Island Health region. As the volume of vaccinations declines, many clinics are moving into smaller locations where they can continue to provide convenient access to immunization,” reads a statement from Island Health.

Additional clinics have been scheduled for many small communities, including Tofino, Ucluelet, Denman Island, Bamfield, Port Hardy, Port McNeill and Sayward, notes the health authority.
