Investigators deem Saturday assault in Saanich a homicide after a man succumbs to injuries

Saanich police responded Saturday to a report of an assault in the 3900-block of Carey Road. Police say a 41-year-old man has succumbed to his injuries.

Saanich police responded Saturday to a report of an assault in the 3900-block of Carey Road. Police say a 41-year-old man has succumbed to his injuries.

Saanich police say a 41-year-old man has died from his injuries following an assault Saturday which is now deemed a homicide by investigators.

Officers were called to the 3900-block of Carey Road around 3 p.m. following a report of a 41-year-old victim of an assault who sustained life threating injuries.

The man died on Wednesday.

Police say those involved in the incident are believed to have known each other and one person was taken into custody Saturday.

Saanich police say no charges have been laid at this time.

Areas near a home on Carey Road in Saanich and a residence on Granderson Road in Langford were cordoned off, but investigators have completed their examination of those areas.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) continues its investigation and police say they do not believe the public is at risk.

Police are asking anyone who has information about the incident to call the VIIMCU Information line at 250-380-6211, or Crime Stoppers.

On the weekend, police were asking for riders of the route 30 B.C. Transit bus travelling on Carey Road around 3:15 p.m. who believe they may have seen the incident or persons associated to the incident to come forward and speak with police.
