An allegedly intoxicated motorist in Langford apparently thanked the officer who caught him, according to Mounties on Vancouver Island.

In a media release, West Shore RCMP say that one of their officers was in the 2600-block of Sooke Road on Wednesday when they noticed a Jeep Cherokee drive over the grass median and head westbound.

Once the Jeep was pulled over, RCMP say the officer noticed that the 23-year-old male driver was “exhibiting signs of alcohol intoxication” and a roadside test was conducted.

RCMP say the 23-year-old driver failed the test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the Jeep was impounded for 30 days.

The officer then drove the 23-year-old man home, who “thanked the officer for keeping the streets safe and asked the officer for a hug,” according to the media release.

RCMP say with the holiday season just around the corner, motorists can expect to see more West Shore RCMP Traffic Services and patrol officers out and about conducting check stops.
