A driver was caught after allegedly speeding on Emily Carr Drive on July 18, 2019.

Saanich police say a driver who was impaired was stopped in a playground zone on Thursday for going more than double above the speed limit.

At 4:10 p.m., Saanich police’s traffic safety unit was in the 4400-block of Emily Carr Drive, a playground zone where the speed limit is 30 km/hour from dawn to dusk.

A driver was then clocked going 63 km/h. He was then pulled over. Police said the driver was impaired by alcohol.

The driver received a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a ticket for speeding. His vehicle was also impounded.

“Impaired driving is still occurring on our roads in Saanich. This summer has already resulted in numerous motor vehicle incidents involving alcohol. Our traffic safety unit will continue their enforcement and roadblocks are expected to continue and increase throughout the summer,” Sgt. Damian Kowalewich with Saanich police said in a statement.
