A house in Hyde Creek on north Vancouver Island is a complete loss after it burst into flames early Saturday morning, according to fire crews.
Firefighters from the Hyde Creek Volunteer and Port McNeill fire departments were called to the house on Hyde Creek Road, near Lanqvist Road, around 3 a.m. to find flames consuming “the entire structure,” local fire chief Murray Estlin says.
The two-storey residence was empty at the time of the blaze, Estlin explained in an interview.
Photos sent to CHEK News show firefighters dousing the fire as smoke billows from the rubble, with the house’s carport and front entry the only areas still standing.
“Like all volunteer fire departments, we are looking for volunteers. We are putting out a plea to everyone to consider getting involved with their local fire department,” Estlin said.
Posts to a local community Facebook group suggest Hyde Creek Road between Jekyll and Lanqvist roads was “effectively shut down” Saturday morning due to the fire.
