Two women on the 1200 and 1400-block of Douglas Street had hot liquid thrown on them on Nov. 23, 2022.

Two women were doused with what may have been hot coffee in back-to-back random assaults that took place in downtown Victoria on Wednesday.

The attacks occurred within 10 minutes of each other in a two-block stretch of Douglas Street, according to police.

The first happened at 4:30 p.m. Police say a teen sitting at a bus stop in front of the Shoppers Drug Mart in the 1200-block of Douglas had hot liquid thrown at her legs by an unknown person.

Ten minutes later, a woman crossing the street in the 1400-block of Douglas also had hot liquid thrown on her legs by an unknown person.

One of the victims was taken to the hospital to get checked out, though police didn’t specify which one.

Investigators want to speak with any witnesses on the west side of Douglas Street between 4:15-5 p.m. who may have seen the assailant in either attack. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 250-995-7654 extension 1.

Const. Terri Healy with VicPD says it has not yet been determined if this incident is related to a similar incident in October when a mother and baby had hot coffee thrown on them in the 900-block of Yates Street.

“We did have a suspect description, at this time we have not been able to identify a suspect in that file, and it has been concluded. We can’t say at this time whether or not those incidents are linked,” Healy said.
