DriveBC warned commuters that Highway 4 along Cameron Lake was closed early Friday evening.
Around 5:30 p.m., DriveBC said Highway 4 between Cathedral Grove and Koen Road was closed because of a rock hazard.
The organization said another update was scheduled for 8 p.m.
Highway 4 – the only paved roadway between Vancouver Island and the west coast communities of Port Alberni, Tofino, and Ucluelet – has been the site of traffic woes for months due to a destructive wildfire.
Its most recent closure was on Wednesday evening, after a short period of rainfall prompted the road to close again because of a risk of rock slides.
When full closures aren’t in place, the road is open to single-lane alternating traffic for limited hours during weekdays.
