A high-risk sex offender has been arrested by the Victoria Police Department after he allegedly approached a girl in the West Shore.

Late last week, police arrested Cameron Ratelle, who was the subject of a VicPD public notification on Oct. 17, 2020, after his parole was revoked for approaching the youth.

According to police, Ratelle is a court-designated dangerous offender with a history of violent sexual offences against young women.

Police emphasize that he is believed to pose a high-risk to re-offend against women, targeting those in the age range of 16-25.

In this most recent case, West Shore RCMP say they received a call from the parents of the young girl on Jan. 21, who reported that she was approached by a man while waiting at a bus stop on Peatt Road.

The man spoke to her and she recognized him as Ratelle from VicPD’s public notification back in October. According to police, the girl managed to immediately speak with a trusted adult – a parent – and 911 was called.

The girl kept herself safe and was not physically injured in the incident, add police in a press release.

Ratelle had already left the area by the time VicPD officers attended the scene, however, he was located the following day – Friday, Jan. 22. Ratelle was taken into custody for breaching his release conditions.

His parole was revoked and the man, considered a high-risk sex offender, was returned to a correctional facility.
