Victoria Police were called to a James Bay residence this afternoon.

Armed with their service rifles and utilizing their remote controlled EDU robot, police shut down a section of Michigan Street to respond to a residence in a three-story apartment complex.

One officer was observed wearing a gasmask, and their armoured response vehicle was seen parked nearby.

When CHEK News arrived on scene, a Victoria fire crew was working to ventilate the residence.

It isn’t clear what prompted the call, but Victoria police confirmed the incident in an email statement and say there are no public safety issues at this time.

The area has since cleared and the street is now open.
