For the second time in as many days, a gun call has resulted in heavily-armed police descending on a Vancouver Island neighbourhood.

The latest call was in Saanich over the dinner hour Wednesday.

Saanich Police swarmed a residential street near Royal Oak Shopping Centre around 5:30 p.m., after receiving a call people were discharging firearms in an empty lot on Viewmont Drive.

It turns out, it was kids playing with a pellet gun.

But police weren’t taking any chances.

“A call like this is taken as serious, as if those firearms are real, until we can prove that they’re not,” says Acting Sgt. Rob McDonald of the Saanich Police Department.

Police say the pellet gun hadn’t been discharged and no charges will be laid.

On Monday evening, heavily armed police surrounded Nanaimo’s Woodgrove Shopping Centre after a young man was seen with a gun.

A suspect was taken into custody nearby about an hour after the call came in.

It turned out to be a replica gun.
