The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority is asking the city for more time to develop a renewed long-term plan that makes the environment a priority.

The authority has asked for a deadline extension to the end of 2025 to recreate its master plan for the breakwater district at Ogden Point.

The GVHA wants to establish a narrative with the nearby neighbourhood of James Bay, determine the feasibility of installing shore power, pursue more environmental examination and remediation and improve environmental and operational footprints.

The authority adds a full-scale audit and emissions inventory was conducted in January 2019 for the Victoria cruise terminal and breakwater district.

The report by Synergy Enterprises showed improvements in emissions over time, but the GVHA says the main recommendation brought forward was to look into shore power for the terminal to help reduce greenhouse gas and other air contaminants from ships in port.
