
Saanich police have released a photo of a suspect who allegedly slashed a security guard in the Uptown Walmart at the end of December.
At around 10:45 p.m. on Dec. 28, 2019, police were called to Uptown mall for a report of a stabbing. According to Saanich police, officers learned a security guard from Uptown Mall had confronted a suspected shoplifter leaving Walmart.
The suspect allegedly slashed the security guard on the arm then fled on a BMX-style bicycle. Police said the security guard sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
On Friday, Saanich police released a photo of the suspect taken from CTV footage.
The suspect is described as white and between 40 and 50 years of age. He reportedly took off on a red BMX-style bike in the direction of Oak Street following the assault. He was wearing a red baseball cap and a black jacket. The backpack he carried had distinctive white piping around the edges.
