A GoFundMe has been started for the family of 22-year-old Tristan Alexander, who was killed in a snowboarding accident on Mount Washington earlier this year.

An online fundraiser has been started for the family of a man who died in a snowboarding accident on Vancouver Island earlier this year.

Tristan Alexander, 22, was killed while snowboarding on Mount Washington on Jan. 5. The resort said Alexander had been snowboarding inbounds with four friends and fell in “open intermediate terrain” while a witness told CHEK News he had been found in a hole or depression of snow under a ski lift.

A GoFundMe has now been established for Alexander’s family, with proceeds going towards covering unexpected expenses such as funeral costs. More than $10,000 has been raised so far and the campaign has a goal of $30,000.

“We would like to ease the burden and stress for them by putting together a fund to help them with unexpected expenses including funeral costs and to give them more time and space to grieve their profound loss,” the GoFundMe, which was organized by Vanessa Wyllie, reads.

According to the GoFundMe, the 22-year-old’s family has “endured numerous health crises” and already had to deal with the death of his sister, who passed away from an inoperable brain tumor when she was three.

“Tristan’s family is reeling at this time, having lived through the tragic death of his sister who had an inoperable brain tumor when she was three.

“The layers of loss and grief are enormous. His mom has just returned to work six months ago, after a medical leave from her work as an occupational therapist where she works with young children with special needs.”

The GoFundMe goes on to explain that Alexander was a source of strength and resilience during those difficult times.

“It is inconceivable that this wonderful young man who has been such a source of strength and resilience has been taken from them.”
