A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for the man who was seriously injured after getting pinned under a flipped car at the Saratoga Speedway on Saturday night.

The victim’s sister, Jennifer Sedman, has identified the man as Jonathan Sedman.

In a video taken by Shane Warden on Sept. 29, a car is seen flipping over the rack track barriers shortly before 10 p.m. Jonathan, who was at the Black Creek venue setting up fireworks with Celebration Fireworks, was struck. The vehicle had to be lifted off of him by a safety crew and bystanders.

According to Jennifer, Jonathan was flown to Vancouver General Hospital where he recovering from a brain bleed, multiple broken ribs, a shattered pelvis, a broken left hip and a ruptured bladder. He is heavily sedated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with chest tubes.

Jennifer said Jonathan just had surgery on his hip and they are hoping he will be able to start breathing on his own soon. However, the family has been told by doctors it will be three months until he can stand.

Shortly after the incident, Jonathan’s wife, Christa, delivered their son prematurely. The baby was due at the end of the month.

“He is so excited to be a dad – and we want to help him get back to his new family as quickly as possible,” the GoFundMe page reads. Jennifer has confirmed money raised through the GoFundMe will go toward Jonathan’s recovery, including any medical equipment he will need. The campaign currently has a $25,000 goal.

Saratoga Speedway could not immediately be reached for comment. WorkSafeBC said Thursday that it had dispatched a hygiene officer, who will look at immediate health and safety, and an investigation officer to the scene.
