WATCH: He’s been a gnome without a home since the Nanoose Bay gas station where he sits announced he would be torn down. But there was some good news on Tuesday. April Lawrence reports.

The world’s tallest gnome has found a new home.

The 7.91-metre tall statue in Nanoose Bay will be moved to Galey Farms in Saanich. The farm is located at 4150 Blenkinsop Road.

Bridget Matewish, the granddaughter of Ron Hale, posted the announcement on Tuesday.

Ron Hale built the gnome in 1998 for his family’s amusement park called Gnome Man’s Land. The gnome was later recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest garden gnome.

The family opened a gas station on the property when the park was torn down and the gnome stayed when the property changed ownership. However, the current owners said earlier this month that they would tear Howard the gnome down as he was in disrepair unless he could find a new home. Matewish posted the family’s request for a new home on Facebook and the offers started pouring in.

In their announcement on Tuesday, the family thanked everyone who expressed interest and said they chose Galey Farms based on longevity, lifestyle and what they thought Ron would have appreciated.

“The Galey family has promised to carry on his legacy and has grand plans for Howard’s future,” Matewish wrote.

A date has not been set for when the gnome will be moved but Rob Galey, owner of Galey Farms, hopes to have it up by the fall. There are plans to make Howard wave at visitors as they come to the farm.
