First phase of terminal expansion, including new café, opens at the Victoria airport

Phase one of the $19.4 million terminal expansion has opened at the Victoria International Airport

A new café past the security area and an addition to the lower passenger departure lounge are now open at the Victoria International Airport.

On Thursday, the Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) opened the first phase of a $19.4 million project to expand the lower passenger departure lounge.

The VAA says the first phase includes:

  • A 1765 maddition to the lower passenger departure lounge with capacity for 500 passengers

  • Dedicated aircraft gates and improved access to aircraft

  • New Fresh Cup Café and Bistro

  • New seating and accessibility considerations

There are now places where travellers can buy food and beverages past security: Fresh Cup Café and Bistro, Spinnakers On the Fly and Harbour Walk Shops.

“This is really exciting for us and we look forward to sharing a fresh new space with our travellers,” Geoff Dickson, VAA president and CEO said in a statement. “Ensuring we meet demand and provide an exceptional passenger experience while improving operational efficiencies for our air carriers is a key focus.”

Phase Two is now underway. It includes renovating the existing space, , building new washroom facilities, new public art and “enhancing retail.” The VAA said phase three will expand food options.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience so far and look forward to completion in spring 2020.” Dickson said.
