Firefighters are putting out hot spots and mopping up after a wildfire west of Campbell River.
The wildfire, dubbed the Argonaut Mainline fire, was discovered on May 23. By Friday, there were 16 Campbell River firefighters, seven provincial firefighters and two firefighters from Oyster River working on getting the wildfire under control. BC Hydro crews were also at the scene to deactivate a hydro line.
The fire grew to 3.4 hectares but was fully contained by Friday.
BC Wildfire Service’s Natasha Broznitsky said the fire expanded quickly in scotch broom but the shrub also made the fire easier to contain. On Saturday, 14 BC Wildfire Service firefighters were mopping up and putting out hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is believed that a tree came down on a hydro line.
