FUNDRAISING EFFORTS BEGIN TO UPGRADE EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES FOR THE ALBERNI ATHLETIC HALL KITCHEN
With its long history in the community, the Alberni Athletic Hall has been a major institution in the Alberni Valley for many years. Now a group is working to enhance how the Athletic Hall serves the community by upgrading its kitchen equipment and supplies.
The Athletic Hall’s gymnasium and meeting rooms provide a venue throughout the year for events held by charities, non-profits, athletic organizations, schools districts, First Nations and other community organizations. The focus of the facility has been to attract a steady user base and make the hall accessible to all, at a nominal fee. To ensure a positive cash flow, there are no salaried staff, and all members are volunteers.
For the benefit of Alberni Valley residents and the West Coast of Vancouver Island, the Friends of the Alberni Athletic Association has formed to support the upgrading of kitchen equipment and supplies. This valuable material was lost in a fire that destroyed the old Alberni Athletic Hall in 2009.
The Friends of the Alberni Athletic Association are launching a Kitchen Fundraiser to enhance the facility for all user groups. Athletes and organizations will benefit from these improvements. The Association expects that these upgrades will bring an increased daily use of the facility, improve the position of the Association for major events in the future, and create a lasting impact on community.
Fundraising events will go on through to June of this year. Upon completion of fundraising efforts, equipment and supplies will be purchased and installed.
