Environment Canada is alerting Vancouver Island residents that heavy rainfall is expected to hit both the west and east coasts on Monday.

Environment Canada is alerting Vancouver Island residents that heavy rainfall is expected to hit both the west and east coasts on Monday.

According to the weather agency, an “intense frontal system” is moving across the province’s coastline on Monday, bringing heavy rain.

High volumes of rain is expected to hit Vancouver Island between Nanoose Bay and Fanny Bay.

Environment Canada says that the total rainfall is expected to amass between 50 and 70 mm.

Over on the west coast, Environment Canada says that rainfall amounts of 120 to 150 mm is expected.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” reads a statement from the weather agency.

Environment Canada says the heavy rain is expected to ease by Tuesday morning.
