Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the northern parts of Vancouver Island, expected to hit on Thursday evening.

In a statement made by the weather agency, it suggests that a “deepening area of low pressure currently over Explorer will track towards Haida Gwaii today.”

Environment Canada says that southeast winds could reach speeds of up to 90 km/h on Christmas Eve.

According to Environment Canada, the winds will hit Haida Gwaii and exposed coastal sections of North Vancouver Island early this evening.

The winds are anticipated to ease overnight and shift to southwesterly as the low marches on towards the Gulf of Alaska.

Alerts can be monitored online.

The wind warnings come four days after the southern region of Vancouver Island experienced a major snowstorm.

The storm earlier this week caused over 240,000 B.C. residents to lose power, leaving BC Hydro crews to work around the clock for multiple days.
