An employee working at a home improvement store on Vancouver Island has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Lowe’s Canada, an employee working at their Rona Nanaimo store, located on 1250 Island Highway near Southgate Shopping Centre, recently tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The company says the employee’s last day worked was on Oct. 8.

Lowe’s Canada, the parent company of Rona, does not disclose when their employees tested positive but does disclose when they were informed of the positive test.

“We take each confirmed case of COVID-19 infection among our associates extremely seriously. To ensure the health and safety of our associates and customers, we rigorously apply public health authorities’ recommendations and guidelines,” the company said in a statement on its website.

Lowe’s Canada is among the few large corporations operating in British Columbia that continue to publicly announce if their employees have tested positive for COVID-19. Sobey’s, which owns Thrifty Foods, also continues to post exposure notifications on their website.
